Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Charlotte or nearby towns?
In many parts of Charlotte and surrounding Mecklenburg County communities, you can remove a tree on private property without a permit, especially if it’s dead, hazardous, or threatening a structure. That said, rules can vary depending on the municipality, HOA guidelines, or development regulations. If you’re unsure, we can take a look at the tree and help you understand what applies before any work begins.
How do I know if a tree on my property is dangerous?
A tree may be hazardous if it is leaning more than usual, has large dead branches, visible cracks in the trunk, hollow sections, or roots lifting from the soil. Storm damage, fungal growth, and sudden leaf loss can also signal structural problems. If a tree is hanging over a roof, driveway, or sidewalk, it’s worth having it checked. Our arborists can inspect the tree and recommend whether pruning, treatment, or removal is the safer option.
